Professor Shan Rajendra

Professor Shan Rajendra is a highly experienced gastroenterologist, hepatologist, and interventional endoscopist based in Sydney, dedicated to delivering advanced care in the diagnosis and treatment of complex digestive and liver disorders. With expertise spanning clinical practice, research, and medical leadership, Professor Rajendra combines innovative endoscopic techniques with evidence-based, patient-focused care to achieve the best possible outcomes.
He specialises in advanced therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, colonoscopy including complex large polyp removal, and advanced biliary and pancreatic procedures such as ERCP. Professor Rajendra also performs balloon enteroscopy and capsule endoscopy, providing comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic solutions for a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions. As Professor at the University of New South Wales and Head of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital, he remains at the forefront of research and innovation, with more than 55 peer-reviewed publications and internationally recognised contributions to oesophageal cancer and Barrett’s oesophagus research.
Dr Sam Al-Sohaily

Dr Sam Al-Sohaily is an experienced gastroenterologist dedicated to providing comprehensive care in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of digestive and liver disorders. With a patient-focused approach, he combines the latest evidence-based medicine with personalised care to help patients achieve optimal gastrointestinal health.
He has a particular interest in gastroenterology, hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease, and gastrointestinal cancer screening. Dr Al-Sohaily performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopy and colonoscopy, with a focus on early detection, prevention, and effective management of digestive diseases.
Dr Mudar Zand Irani
Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist
Dr. Mudar Zand Irani MBBS, MPH, FRACP is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with expertise in gastrointestinal motility/functional disorders, IBD, hepatology and advanced endoscopy. He also focuses on gastrointestinal cancer prevention, inflammatory bowel disease, and eosinophilic/allergic gut disorders.
An academically focused physician, Mudar has several publications with globally renowned research groups including the Mayo Clinic and Karolinska Institute. Mudar is one of few Australian PhD candidates in Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and other related functional gut disorders. He has authored papers in prestigious journals such as The Lancet, Human Pathology, and Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in understanding the gut interaction with the immune system, the microbiome, and the nervous system.
He holds a Master's in Public Health (Distinction) from the University of Newcastle and is an affiliate researcher with the NHMRC. Patients are invited to participate in active research through the Centre of Research Excellence in Transforming Gut Health.
Mudar holds two fellowships from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians: Gastroenterology as well as General and Acute Care Medicine. He has over 10 years of experience in metropolitan hospitals across NSW and the ACT. His training includes a two-year fellowship in GI motility/Neurogastroenterology and another fellowship in interventional endoscopy, with a focus on performing double balloon small bowel endoscopies.
